“Smooth transition”: Pompeo announces Trump’s second term in office

Joe Biden has long been declared the newly elected President of the United States. But President Trump and other prominent Republicans refuse to acknowledge the electoral victory. Chancellor Pompeo even goes one step further.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo does not want to admit that President Donald Trump lost to his challenger Joe Biden in the US elections. When asked if his department was preparing a transfer to the Biden team, Pompeo told a news conference in Washington: “There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration.” He asked to wait for the additional process established in the constitution.

Pompeo added that the world should have “full confidence” that the ministry will be fully operational as soon as the new president takes office on January 20. Pompeo reacted weakly to the question of whether Trump’s refusal to admit defeat was not discrediting the State Department’s calls to other countries for free and fair elections. “That’s ridiculous,” Pompeo said. “The United States has an electoral system that is deeply ingrained in our constitution.” This system will be followed.

Trump and other prominent Republicans have so far failed to acknowledge Democrat Biden’s victory. Trump criticizes electoral fraud and sues in several states. Trump has not provided proof of his fraud allegations. Election observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe found no irregularities in the US elections. OSCE head of mission Michael Georg Link described Trump’s manipulation allegations as “unfounded.”

Biden was declared the winner on Saturday according to US media polls and predictions. The president of the United States is not elected directly by the people, but by the electorate in the states. The winner needs at least 270 of the 538 voters. States must certify final election results by December 8 and report them to Washington. On December 14 the electorate will vote.
