The hopes of the whole world now turn to THIS German company …

Mainz-based pharmaceutical company Biontech announced wonderful news on Monday about the efficacy of its BNT162b2 corona vaccine: the serum offers 90% protection against Covid-19 disease. Serious side effects? So far no one has observed!

ESO is the result of an extensive scientific study with 43,538 test participants. It is no less than a “milestone”, the head of the company, Ugur Sahin (55) told BILD.

►But it is also the culmination of a short and extremely steep business career. Because Sahin came from Turkey with his parents at the age of four, grew up in Cologne and studied medicine at the university there.

► Then he founded Biontech in 2008 with his wife Özlem Türeci (53). The company (meanwhile 1,323 employees) is also researching new drugs against cancer and other serious diseases.

The corona vaccine should now accelerate the Biontech success story. Together with US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, the Mainz-based company wants to produce up to 50 million doses of vaccines this year.

An application for a first market approval will be submitted next week to the US regulatory authority FDA.

But Health Minister Jens Spahn (40, CDU) promised on Monday that the drug should also be available “soon” in Germany.

In fact, the EU had already booked 200 million doses of vaccines at Biontech in September, and there is an option for 100 million more.

The economy in particular awaits the new active ingredient. The 90 percent protection would be “fantastic,” said Stefan Schneider, chief economist at Deutsche Bank. In hopes of foreseeable containment of the pandemic, business and consumer confidence will also receive a strong boost, Schneider told BILD.

The Biontech miracle has made financial markets jump for joy.

“This is the success story that the stock exchanges have been longing for”said Timo Emden, an analyst at Emden Research.

On the stock exchanges, the rapid development of vaccines gives hope that the pandemic can be overcome. “The light is now visible at the end of the tunnel for the first time,” said Jochen Stanzl, chief market analyst at brokerage AxiTrader. The Dax rose 6.5 percent to 13,297 points in a few minutes – this is the biggest price jump since March. The EuroStoxx50 jumped 7.4 percent at 3439 meters.

“The news about the Biontech Pfizer vaccine brings us one step closer to normal life,” said Naeem Aslam, chief market analyst at brokerage Avatrade. “There is no doubt that we will have more good news at the end of the year.”
