US President Donald Trump’s special treatment on Twitter could end when he leaves the White House in January. As soon as you are no longer in office, you will be treated like any other normal user, the company has confirmed to the Bloomberg news portal. Should Trump continue to glorify violence or spread false, racist or harmful information, individual tweets and, in the worst case, his account, could be removed.
In most cases, politicians in office and dignity do not have to fear the consequences if company guidelines are violated on Twitter. The social network believes that citizens have the right to know if, for example, their head of state or government threatens to use violence. However, for some months now Twitter has been providing such messages with warnings and restricting their distribution.

Since last Tuesday’s presidential election alone, Twitter has intervened 19 times in Trump’s case (starting Saturday afternoon at 4.40pm German time). The US president had repeatedly denounced the alleged electoral fraud that would cost him his re-election. In 16 cases, the company decided to hide the tweets. Instead, read the note that the content is “controversial or possibly misleading.” Only when the warning is clicked will the original tweet be displayed. This cannot be to the liking. To limit distribution, other users cannot share the tweet without comment.
The company had done the same with a tweet that also implied electoral fraud and that Trump sent without comment. In another case, Trump claimed victories in the states of Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina. Twitter added to this tweet that there was no official election result yet. The same comment was received Saturday afternoon in Germany over Trump’s claim that he had “clearly” won the election. Late in the afternoon on Saturday, the US media declared their Democratic challenger Joe Biden the winner of the election.
If Biden were to be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on January 20, as planned, Trump would have to leave the White House that day. From this point on, the usual Twitter rules will apply to you. This means that if there are repeated violations of company policies, your account could be blocked or suspended. If there were a certain number of violations, your account would eventually be deleted.
