Following the fatal blow to a man on Augsburg’s Königsplatz, the 17-year-old main perpetrator was sentenced to four years and six months in prison. The district court found Halid S. guilty of bodily harm resulting in death and dangerous bodily harm.

The 49-year-old man went to Königsplatz for a Christmas market and a visit to a restaurant with his wife and a couple of friends in St. There he got into an argument with a group of young people to which Halid S. belonged.

The young man beaten from the perspective of the juvenile chamber, Roland S. suffered a brain hemorrhage as a result of the blow and passed away shortly after.

Convicted of dangerous bodily injury

After the violence, the 17-year-old and two friends beat the second 50-year-old man and seriously injured him. For this, the court convicted him of dangerous bodily harm.

According to the “Süddeutscher Zeitung”, the 18-year-old accomplice was sentenced to one year and four months in prison for dangerous bodily injury. Therefore, the 20-year-old third defendant was sentenced to a suspended sentence for the same allegation without a precise sentence.

Just a protected friend?

Defense attorneys for Halid S. had called for emergency help and a suspended sentence. His client wanted to protect a friend the father of the family had previously encountered.

With their verdict against the main offender, the judges fell short of the sentence that the prosecutor and co-defendants had demanded the day before: six years in prison.

The surveillance cameras on Königsplatz had recorded the acts of violence. The main defendant had already delivered the punch at the beginning of the trial.
