Legal experts from the US Democrats have asked the online service Twitter to block US President Donald Trump’s account until all votes have been counted in the presidential election.
The president of the United States warmed the mood in the country on Wednesday by again rushing against the counting of votes by mail. Many Democratic voters used the mail vote in the 2020 U.S. elections, challenger Joe Biden received significantly more votes than Trump on the spectrum. Even so, the president of the United States declared the winner in Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina, although not all the votes were counted. It has spread “pure disinformation,” wrote Democratic politician Gerry Connolly on Twitter.

“Block his account, Twitter,” Connolly wrote. “Valid votes are counted. This is the United States, not Russia.” Rhode Island Representative David Cicilline also said that Trump’s tweets on Wednesday were “a threat to our democracy.”

According to the political magazine “Politico”, several politicians, including the Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris, asked Twitter to block the president.
The social media giant had toughened up its disinformation policy in the lead up to Election Day. For example: “When people try to retweet a tweet with a misleading information label, they see a message warning them of unreliable information,” the San Francisco-based company said Monday.

Therefore, Twitter also provided warnings in several tweets from Trump about alleged electoral fraud on the day of the presidential election. “Some or all of the content shared in this tweet is controversial and potentially misleading as to how to participate in an election or other civic process,” the warning from Twitter said Wednesday.

In the middle of the night of the American elections, President Trump accused opposition Democrats in a tweet of wanting to “steal” his electoral victory. He wrote on Twitter: “We are way ahead, but they are trying to steal the election.” Trump’s Democratic challenger, Biden, had recently said he was “on track to win this election.”
In a second tweet he later denounced an alleged “disappearance” of the Republican votes. By Tuesday night he still had a “solid” lead over Biden in many key states, which had “magically” disappeared. Instead, “surprise votes” were counted. You can read a fact check on your returns here.
Overall, Trump (74) fared significantly better in the elections than expected according to polls. Biden missed the clear victory that the Democrats had hoped for and had to admit defeat to the Republican president in Florida and Texas, among others. Before the elections, the statistics portal “FiveThirtyEight” had only calculated a probability of around ten percent for a Trump victory.
