Supporters of the president of the United States, Trump, are protesting in Michigan and Arizona: they call for the voting to be stopped. According to CNN, some of them are armed. The police protect an electoral college in Arizona. Trump’s opponents also protest.
Supporters of United States President Donald Trump took to the streets against the post-election vote count. In the highly competitive states of Michigan and Arizona, they protested Wednesday in front of buildings where votes were counted.
In Arizona, several Trump supporters gathered outside a polling station that night, some of them armed with rifles and pistols, according to CNN. The crowd in front of the Maricopa County Elections Department in Phoenix chanted “Stop the robbery” and “Count my vote.”
Several policemen blocked the entrance. Inside were election watchers for both Democrats and Republicans, and the count was streamed online at all times.
Dating in Arizona is one of the deciding factors
The outcome of the Arizona vote could help determine whether Trump or his challenger Joe Biden win the election. By the current state, Biden is way ahead of Trump in Arizona.
Some media outlets have already granted Biden status, but Trump’s campaign staff insist the decision has yet to be made.
Supporters also protested in Detroit, Michigan with similar slogans. The police prevented them from entering an area where votes were counted.
Protests on the other side too
But there were also protests from the other political side: in New York City and Seattle, for example, thousands of people took to the streets to demand that all votes cast be counted.
Downtown violence broke out in Portland, Oregon. According to the authorities, the protesters threw bottles and other objects at the emergency services and smashed the shop windows. A man was suspected of having thrown a Molotov cocktail. Police confiscated several weapons, including a loaded rifle, knife, hammer, and fireworks. At least ten people were arrested. Hundreds of police officers and national guards were on duty.
Portland Extended Emergency
Previously, various leftist and anti-capitalist groups had peacefully demonstrated in a city center park with music and lectures. Another group of protesters on the city’s waterfront said they wanted to protect the election results and waved banners reading “Every vote counts.”
The governor of the US state of Oregon, Kate Brown, extended the previously declared state of emergency for election night.
