US Elections: Could Biden Win Without Pennsylvania?

SThe United States and the rest of the world have been waiting for hours for the results of eight American states that are not yet in the vote count. The result is still close. In four states, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden leads the way, in four the current Donald Trump.

The most competitive is Pennsylvania. Trump is currently way ahead there. But there is a scenario in which Biden could become president of the United States without a victory in Pennsylvania. If he takes the lead in Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and Nebraska over the finish line, Biden would have 270 electoral votes, a majority.

This is the current state in these states:

Wisconsin (10 voters): The Swing State lives up to its name and is expected to change from Republicans to Democrats. Almost 24 hours after the polls closed, CNN guessed the forecast: Biden will win. 99 percent of the votes are counted. More recently, Biden edged out Donald Trump (48.8 percent) with 49.4 percent of the vote; the 20,510 vote lead is still small. The reason for the change was the new numbers for the Democratic stronghold of Milwaukee. Here, the results of the region’s 170,000 mail-in votes could only be announced when all had been counted; the vast majority of them went to Biden.

Michigan (16 voters): Currently 92 percent of the votes are counted here. Biden is extending his lead at the finish line and is ahead of Trump with 49.5 percent (48.8 percent). More recently, Biden increased his lead from around 9,900 to 33,500 votes. Fox, who actually considers himself Trump’s home station, sees Biden up front.

Arizona (11 voters) could be the decisive state that Trump is losing. Fox News was the first station to declare Biden’s electoral victory; other American media followed suit. 86 percent of the votes are now counted, Biden leads with 51.0 percent of the votes, Trump stands at 47.6 percent.

CNN reported on its live stream that Trump was said to be very upset by the Fox News announcement. Fox News explained its decision by saying that the majority of the outstanding votes would come from absentee ballots and from a constituency where Biden is favored. Therefore, it is virtually impossible for Trump to catch up. In his speech at the White House, the President of the United States was clearly angered by the loss, but concluded with the words: “We don’t need Arizona.”

In Nevada (6 voters), where Trump (48.7 percent) was initially at the helm, has now caught up with Biden (49.3 percent); the difference is only made by 7647 votes. 86 percent of the votes are counted. However, the state accepts mail-in ballots that were cast on Election Day; therefore, a final result could take another week. The state election office announced Twitterdo not announce further results until Thursday at 9 am local time (6 pm CET). Nevada went to Hillary Clinton in 2016. Biden will have to win Nevada again alongside Arizona to avoid being dependent on Pennsylvania.

Where the signs are good for Trump

Pennsylvania (20 voters): After counting 78 percent of the votes, Trump is clearly ahead with 54.2 percent of the votes (Biden 44.5). Pennsylvania could be one of the last states whose results will be known; official results were not expected until Thursday night. In particular, the counting of mail-in ballots was also delayed, a higher percentage of which probably voted democratically. Mail-in votes can be counted up to three days after Election Day if they are postmarked November 3. In 2016, Trump won and got the state’s many voters with an advantage of just 0.7 percentage points.

The choice in Georgia (16 voters), where 92 percent of the votes have already been counted, but Trump is currently only slightly ahead of Biden (48.3 percent) at 50.5 percent. Not much is changing here right now, the Fulton County district, which also includes the city of Atlanta, announced a countdown break until 2pm CET. However, there are still two districts where many Biden followers live.

too North Carolina (15 voters) has not yet been decided, contrary to what Trump claims. Although 95 percent of the votes have already been counted here, Trump is currently only slightly ahead of Biden (48.7) at 50.1 percent. When Trump speaks of a “great victory” in the state in his address to White House supporters, the applause is correspondingly meager. In 2016, Georgia and North Carolina came to Trump.

Furthermore, the voices in Alaska (3 voters) still counted. They are considered safe for Trump.

Election night initially seemed to go like 2016: Polls initially gave Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden hope for a clear victory. Then, however, the map of Donald Trump’s victories in the states became increasingly red. But now it looks like Biden could win at the finish line.

Texas, Florida, Ohio: The great US states that secure many electoral votes for a candidate and that Democrats expected in advance returned to Republican Trump. Consequently, the president of the United States has already been chosen the winner. He justified it with intermediate results in the contested states, in which the counts were still ongoing.
