Despite the partial lockdown, the number of infections in Germany continues to rise. On Wednesday morning, the RKI again initially reported too low figures.

German health authorities initially reported 16,498 new corona infections in one day to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Wednesday. In the morning, the institute had to correct the numbers again: there were actually 17,214 new infections. On Wednesday a week ago, the number of new infections reported was 14,964, almost double the number on Wednesday of the previous week.

More than 560,000 corona cases so far

The RKI also revised up the total numbers and the number of deaths: According to the RKI, a total of 577,593 people across the country have been with them since the start of the pandemic. SARS-CoV-2 infected (as of November 4 at 00:00). The number of deaths related to the virus rose by 151 on Wednesday to a total of 10,812. 143 deaths had previously been reported. The RKI estimates that around 371,500 people have recovered.

According to RKI’s status report on Tuesday, the number of views, or R-value for short, was 0.94 in Germany (previous day: 1.07). This means that an infected person infects slightly less than another person on average. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier.

The R value is again below 1

In addition, the RKI includes the so-called seven-day R in its management report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value was 0.98 on Tuesday (previous day: 1.04). It shows the infection process for eight to 16 days.
