After the presidential elections in the United States, both candidates were confident of victory, although the result has not yet been determined. The incumbent Donald Trump spoke on Twitter of a “great victory” and accused his political opponents of trying to “steal the election.” The short message service added a warning to this tweet.
Challenger Joe Biden said: “We believe we are on track to win this election.” The Democrat asked his supporters to be patient. It could possibly take a while until a result is established in the race between him and Trump. “It doesn’t end before all the votes have been counted,” Biden said in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.
Particularly sparse Midwest
After a long election night, the outcome was still pending in several US states, including the particularly contested Midwest. Trump’s challenger, Biden, did in some cases better than Hillary Clinton four years ago, but missed the clear electoral victory that his Democratic Party hoped for.
Like years ago, Trump was able to win again in Florida, Texas, Ohio and Iowa. As four years ago, the presidential elections in the Midwestern states should be decided. In Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, however, there were delays in counting, mostly due to different regulations for dealing with votes by mail. In most of the 50 US states and the capital district of Washington DC, the 2016 majority shares were maintained.
