The maximum working time for employees in clinics and nursing homes increases to 60 hours per week. The Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Monday that the new regulation is limited to the end of May.
This step is taking place for the second time in Lower Saxony: at the end of March, after the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the working day had been increased to 60 hours a week by a general decree. The ruling expired at the end of May.

Chamber of Nursing: the government should be ashamed
The Chamber of Nursing, which is about to be dissolved, criticizes the actions of the State. He fell asleep for months to prepare medical facilities for the second wave of the corona pandemic. “Now employees in systemically important professions are supposed to salvage the situation using their own health,” said Chamber of Nursing Speaker Nadya Klarmann. The government should be ashamed to correct its own long-term mistakes in care policy at the expense of the people who keep the system running.
Klarmann: a decision takes caregivers out of their jobs
The health system will not collapse because of missing beds or fans, but because nurses are being burned in a way never seen before, criticized Klarmann. Even now, eight-hour shifts in full protective gear put extreme stress on caregivers. With the decision, the state government is torpedoing years of efforts to make the nursing professions more attractive. A new extension of the working day will not be accepted in any case. This “will get colleagues out of their jobs,” complains Klarmann.
