He came to Germany with his family four years ago. They had lived in Yarmuk, a camp for Palestinian refugees near Damascus. They then fled the war in Syria. Mohammed A. is now dead, he died in Berlin at the age of only 13. Because a man fatally wounded him with stab wounds on Saturday night. According to Tagesspiegel’s research, it could have been about a girl.

On Monday, the alleged perpetrator appeared before the homicide commission of the State Criminal Police (LKA). Apparently, the pressure was too great: the police had summoned witnesses and published a description of the perpetrator: a man in his 40s, bald with a gray beard. The response was excellent and numerous reports were received.

Investigators then temporarily arrested the 41-year-old man, a Turkish national, and questioned him on the same day as the suspect. According to information from Tagesspiegel, he is known to the police for violent crimes. According to the information, there is no information yet on the cause of the fatal dispute.

From the victim’s environment and on social networks, the accusation became strong that the perpetrator should have made racist statements. But so far, the prosecutor said, “there is no evidence of a possible racist motive.” Many open questions remain. According to eyewitness accounts, the perpetrator acted coldly and apparently remained cold immediately after the crime.

In the tunnel between James-Simon- and Monbijoupark, directly below the light rail, the man is said to have had an argument with a group of seven, as police initially said. First, he is said to have stabbed Mohammed in the stomach at least twice. When he wanted to leave and was approached by a 22-year-old boy, he also stabbed him. The 22-year-old Syrian suffered serious injuries to the shoulder area, was in mortal danger and is in hospital. But the perpetrator continued calmly, with no frantic escape.

The police are also said to have noticed Mohammed. Friends called him Momo how does one of them write. He had not lived with his parents for three weeks. His father reported it to the Tagesspiegel on Monday.

The parents had asked the youth welfare office for help because they could no longer get along with Mohammed. He no longer listened to his parents, they say. The youth welfare office welcomed Mohammed through the emergency service for children and young people. But the 13-year-old is said to rarely stay at the facility. At least that’s what the employees told him on the phone, his father says, when he called there to ask about his son.

So far, the Senate Youth Administration has only received indications that the victim was housed in a youth welfare center. The authority is now following up, a spokeswoman said. However, in consideration of the special need for protection, the juvenile administration declined to comment on the case.

The family also had contact with the Mohammeds themselves, as the brothers and parents say. But three days before the crime it was no longer available. The cell phone contract has expired, they say.

On Monday, the father visited the other victim, Ahmed A., 22, at the hospital. Hossam A. wanted to know how it could happen that her son is now dead. From the man who defended Muhammad who attacked the perpetrator.
