Some 130 people demonstrated in front of the Brandenburg Gate and the French Embassy in Mitte on Friday afternoon against the statements of French President Macron following the Islamist attacks in France and against the “abuse of the Prophet Muhammad.”
The association “Palestinian Community in Germany” called for the protest. The background is the Islamist attack in Nice, in which a murderer attacked several people and cut the throat of a woman.
With the protest, the protesters turned against discrimination against Islam as a terrorist religion. They asked the French president to apologize for inciting Muslims.

The participants demanded that Islam be treated with the same rights as other religions. They also resisted the use of the exclamation “Allahu akbar” as a terrorist symbol: the phrase is a harmless commitment to the Muslim faith.
According to a police spokesperson, there had already been a similar meeting with around 60 people in front of the Brandenburg Gate in the morning, as well as on Thursday evening at Neukölln’s Hermannplatz.
