The Robert Koch Institute speaks of a “growing acceleration” in view of thousands of new corona infections in just one day. The new record: 18,681 cases. Bremen and Berlin recorded the largest increases in incidence over 7 days.
The number of new corona infections registered in Germany has reached a new high of 18,681 cases in one day. This arises from the information of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) of the dawn. The previous record the day before was 16,774 cases. On Friday a week ago, the health authorities informed the RKI of 11,242 new infections.
According to the RKI, a total of 499,694 people across Germany have been infected with Sars-CoV-2 since the start of the pandemic. The number of deaths related to the virus rose 77 through Thursday to a total of 10,349. The RKI estimates that around 345,700 people have recovered.
The 7-day incidence exceeds 100
The RKI report also shows that the number of registered corona infections per 100,000 residents in the past seven days exceeded 100 nationwide for the first time. The 7-day incidence is therefore 104.9 (at 12:00 am).
The day before it was 99.0 across the country, four weeks ago it was 15.3. A high incidence of 7 days indicates that many people have contracted the virus.
Highest current values in Bremen and Berlin
The following cities and federal states recorded a particularly high number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days: Bremen (160.3), Berlin (146.1), Hesse (145.8) and North Rhine-Westphalia (140.0). Values higher than the national average were also recorded in Bavaria (114.1) and Sarre (116.5).
50 new infections in a region in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants were considered an important cutoff value in recent weeks, above which specific measures to contain the corona wave were often introduced into the area.
Estimate: 44.88 million infected people worldwide
According to a calculation by the Reuters news agency, more than 44.88 million people have been shown to have contracted the corona virus worldwide. Almost 1.18 million people died with or from the virus. The United States has the highest number of infections worldwide, followed by India, Brazil, Russia, France, and Spain.
