CDU: Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer reports on “offended” fans of Friedrich Merz

Kramp-Karrenbauer had “received a lot of reactions from the federal board, incidentally also supporters of Friedrich Merz, who felt hurt in his honor for being accused of something like that,” said the current president of RTL / ntv.

“There are currently too many conspiracy theories in Germany for my liking.” Kramp-Karrenbauer “knows no one” in the party who wants to warn Merz with all his might. There is an “open candidate race” at CDU, which has been “very fair” over the past few months. “It is important that we keep a cool head and that we are united in the party,” said the president of the CDU.

“It was not easy for anyone” to postpone the party conference, Kramp-Karrenbauer said. However, this change is “compared to the existential question of many other people, a comparatively manageable question that can still be resolved.” Above all, for Kramp-Karrenbauer “it is not a decision criterion which candidate wants on which date.”

On the question of when exactly the party congress will take place, Kramp-Karrenbauer said: “The sooner there is clarity, the better it will be. Preferably at a party congress where we can meet physically.” In a congress of a digital party one may not have “legal certainty” for the election of the board. Voting by mail is once again “the last resort.”
