Problems in the Augsburg laboratory lead to incorrect test results

At the MVZ laboratory in Augsburg, numerous corona PCR tests are said to have produced false positive results. Reuters agency reports with reference to a newspaper article in “Münchner Merkur”. There it says that the Isar-Amper-Klinikum psychiatric hospital in Taufkirchen / Vils in Upper Bavaria could not explain the accumulation of positive cases. That is why the clinic had the patients evaluated a second time. According to the report, 58 of the 60 positive tests turned out to be false.

MVZ-Labor Augsburg had several problems

According to Reuters, the managing director of the MVZ laboratory in Augsburg explained the error with the shortage of reagents. Due to non-delivery from a manufacturer, the laboratory had to resort to another seemingly incompatible means of detection. “Due to the large number of samples and the lack of accessories, it was not possible to quickly verify positive results in all cases,” the manager quoted the newspaper as saying.

Over and over again incorrect PCR tests

However, according to the report, the false results are not isolated. Other laboratories would also have difficulties performing tests at the usual quality due to lack of personnel and reagents. Prominent examples of false positive tests are several players from the Würzburger Kickers and the third division team Türkgücü Munich.

False positive PCR tests are also possible, but very rarely, even though they have been performed correctly. They arise because the existing PCR tests do not work exactly 100 percent, but only with an accuracy of around 98 percent. This was the case with national player Serge Gnabry from FC Bayern Munich.
