The head of government suggested advancing a special crown session of parliament, which was scheduled for November 3 at the request of the CDU, for this Friday. It is still open if that will be successful. Ramelow had caused irritation with a statement Tuesday that he would not agree to another temporary shutdown of public life by ordinance.
Ramelow now said that he made this statement under the impression that Foreign Ministry documents were missing until shortly before the conference. He maintains his criticism of this way of approaching the Prime Minister’s Conference. Criticism of Ramelow’s actions came from the CDU and AfD parliamentary groups.
In view of the dynamism of the new corona infections, which are now also in Thuringia, he recommends the state parliament to support the cuts, Ramelow said. “We have to interrupt the dynamic.” However, it is important to keep schools and kindergartens open. He expects the federal government to pay compensation to traders and businesses that are economically disadvantaged as a result.
Thuringia awaits national health emergency
According to Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), the crown measures that the federal and state governments agreed to on Wednesday apply throughout Germany. Everyone has to implement them through general ordinances. Thuringia will continue to deal with parliament. “But as it is here, it applies across the country,” Ramelow said.
In a formal declaration of the Thuringia State Chancellery, it is said that the State will only support those measures “that are adequate and proportionate to effectively contain the infection process through scientific knowledge.”
Thuringia also hopes that the Bundestag will determine an acute national health emergency, which justifies the resolutions passed by the Conference of Prime Ministers (MPK). The Federal Council should also take care of it. Ramelow said: “It is imperative that we have a resolution from the Bundestag.”
The leader of the CDU parliamentary group, Mario Voigt, stated: “We hope that Prime Minister Ramelow will fulfill his responsibility and will not dilute the national agreements through other special channels in Thuringia.” He believes that the agreed measures to contain the pandemic are necessary.
“Of course we are putting a lot of pressure on our citizens. But we will only handle this crisis jointly. ” The state parliament must have a say in the design of the pandemic concept for Thuringia.
Massive criticism of the agreements between the federal and state governments comes from the AfD parliamentary group in the state parliament. The group’s leader, Björn Höcke, spoke in a message of a “virocracy” that would eliminate democracy. “The measures decided are not related to demonstrable benefit and are not based on an understandable scientific basis.”
