Rottal-Inn in Bavaria: closing – all schools and kindergartens are closed

After the Berchtesgaden district, there is also a closure in the Rottal-Inn district in Lower Bavaria. Starting Tuesday, schools and nurseries will be closed and all events will be canceled, as announced by the district office in Pfarrkirchen.

The measures taken are comparable to those of Berchtesgadener Land. Kindergartens and schools have also been closed there since last week. Residents can only leave their homes for compelling reasons.

School closings are a controversial tool in the fight against the coronavirus. In recent weeks, Germany’s education ministers had spoken out in favor of schools and kindergartens, unlike the national closure in spring, having to stay open as long as possible.

“Last resource”

Chancellor Angela Merkel, prime ministers and prominent politicians such as Green Party leader Robert Habeck supported this demand. OECD Director of Education Andreas Schleicher also calls school closings a “last resort”.

In the Berchtesgaden district, there have been repeated demonstrations in recent days by a few dozen parents and children against school closings, local media reported.

Maria Aicher, co-organizer of a protest, told the portal “rosenheim24”: “The uncertainty between parents and children is enormous.” The daily balance with constantly new regulations and unfulfilled promises cannot continue.

Another mother complained that some children were now home alone for days because their parents had to work. According to the report, many parents are upset that, in their opinion, politicians have broken their word: “They promised us that the children would suffer no more.”

Some parents started an online petition to protest the school closings. You are asking for “permanent face-to-face registrations for our children and adolescents”: more than 3,000 people signed up on Monday.

On Sunday, Rottal-Inn District Administrator Michael Fahnmüller (CSU) stated that he would do everything possible to avoid a closure. On Monday, the politician said that the numbers had continued to rise too high, so there was no alternative. The confinement is necessary “to protect the population.”

According to the Robert Koch Institute, there were recently 260.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants with the corona virus in Rottal-Inn in seven days. Therefore, the incidence value is higher than that of the Berchtesgaden district with 237 new infections. The districts have the highest number of infections in Germany.

Rottal-Inn restrictions are initially valid for ten days. This includes a ban on tourist accommodation, thermal baths, cinemas, theaters, music and dance schools must also remain closed. People in the district are only allowed to leave their homes for occasions such as work, shopping, or visiting the doctor.
