Who is America’s greatest adversary? This is the question that US presidential candidate Joe Biden asked in an interview with CBS television station. The democratic politician responded quickly with Russia and thus caused outrage in Moscow.
The Kremlin statement said that Biden was “wrong and incites hatred of Russia.” The statement of the US presidential candidate is regretted. Moscow is not the biggest threat to America’s security.
Biden had previously described Russia as America’s central adversary in world politics. “I think the biggest threat to America right now is Russia in terms of attacks on our security and the splitting of our alliances,” Biden said in an interview on CBS Sunday. “Second, I think China is our biggest competitor.”
US President Donald Trump also answered the question, but in a different way than Biden. He believes that China is the biggest rival. “You are an opponent, you are a competitor, you are an enemy in many ways,” the president said.
There has been a lot of speculation in recent years about the current US president’s relationship with Russia. The American secret services assumed that Russia was waging a campaign in 2016 to deepen divisions in American society and help Trump enter the White House.
Trump himself emphasizes that no one is tougher on Russia than he is. In fact, his government also imposed various sanctions on Russia. Yet it was noted time and again that Trump avoids publicly criticizing Russian President Vladimir Putin, most recently, for example, when it came to the poisoning of Russian opponent Alexej Navalny.
