Doctors open the topics of the day: the people

“Here’s ÄRZTE Deutsche Fernsehen” – a spectacular opening of the daily themes on Friday evening!

Doctors surprised the audience with an appearance at the beginning of the ARD broadcast at 9.45pm! The band played the jingle, the news show’s opening tune. “A daily themed premiere,” said moderator Ingo Zamperoni (46).

Reason for the appearance: a new medical album is about to begin. “Hell”, their first album since 2012. And the Tagesthemen show was about the crisis in the events industry.

Bela B (57), Farin Urlaub (56) and Rodrigo “Rod” González (52) are not doctors, but these doctors have had their painful experiences with Corona.

The trio had to postpone their tour for the new album for a year due to the corona pandemic. Highway, sound and lighting engineers lost their jobs.

“We know that they did not have a job all year and now they are very afraid of their existence,” said drummer Bela B. in an interview with Ingo Zamperoni. “We hope that politicians will see and support this huge industry, which contains 1.4 million people.”

Doctors in suits

The full medical presence can be viewed in the ARD media library. Punk rockers wore suits and talked about Corona aid too. Farin: “Right now everyone wants money because everyone is doing badly, I can understand it, no one can force their way.” Then a little slip: “Unless it’s Lufthansa or something!”

The band members themselves, thanks to millions of records sold, are still doing well financially even in the Corona crisis. Farin says culture is too often taken for granted.

Rod criticized the fact that there are no uniform measures regarding hygiene standards at concerts: protection against infection is a matter of the country. Farin’s sad conclusion: “We have to accept the fact that the kind of gigs we like to play is not possible while Corona is so furious.”

Why did the band take a hiatus of about eight years? Farin exaggerates: “We don’t like each other, something went wrong.” Bela put it this way: “There was a lot of fatigue in the band.”

Thanks to the corona pandemic, the band was able to work very concentrated on the new album. “There was no distraction,” Farin said. “But I can’t think of any more good things.”
