Although the government is against: Lauterbach supports Drosten’s Ü50 plan – internal politics

I support Professor Christian Drosten (48)!

Charité’s chief virologist has come up with a proposal for a new corona baseline value: the incidence of more than 50. This value is intended to indicate how many over 50 have been infected with the coronavirus. As more severe cases occur in infected people in this age group, “the incidence of more than 50 years would give a prognosis about the most severe cases expected in the near future and therefore about the occupation of beds”, a spokeswoman for Charité told BILD.

Now Drosten is receiving support from SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach (57). “An additional incidence for those over 50 would be a significant improvement to the forecasts of the relevant districts,” Lauterbach told BILD. “Therefore, I support the proposal.”

Like Drosten, Lauterbach only wants to introduce the occurrence of more than 50 in addition to the existing incidence benchmark, but not replace it.

But the federal government does not want to know anything about the proposal so far. When asked by the BILD, a spokesman for the Health Ministry said Wednesday that the “existing alert levels” were already sufficient.

The federal government is currently moving toward the so-called seven-day incidence. This value indicates how many new infections there have been per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days, regardless of the age of those infected.

Any region with an incidence greater than 50 is considered a risk area. As of Thursday, there were already more than 130 districts and cities across the country. 30 regions are even above an incidence value of 100.
