What an exclamation point for FC Bayern at the start of the Champions League group stage. Atletico Madrid, Germany’s record champion, dismantled 4-0, facing at times in a frenzy, dominating the highly valued and normally strong defensive team of star coach Diego Simeone almost at will.
“We had a difficult task ahead of us and we mastered it with ease,” Bayern coach Hansi Flick said after the game, and was enthusiastic: “The efficiency was extremely good again. There were four wonderful goals, one more beautiful than the other. That’s why let’s just leave it at that and enjoy this prelude. ”
