Liebig 34 on fire – possible arson – BZ Berlin

Large-scale deployment of the Berlin fire brigade! At around 8.30 pm, a fire broke out in Liebigstrasse 34. The housing project on the left was cleared about two weeks ago.

“50 cubic meters of garbage is being burned in and around the house,” a fire department spokesman said Wednesday night. In front of the building there was a large amount of bulky debris behind a barrier, which was removed from the house after the evacuation on October 9.

The fire then spread to the ground floor. It was not clear at first if other floors were affected, as firefighters were unable to enter the building.

At around 10 p.m., the fire department, with 30 people on the scene, put out the fire. Finally, the emergency services moved to the individual floors in order to identify possible sources of fire.

According to initial information, no one was injured.

At first, the details of the cause of the fire were unknown. According to information from BZ, arson cannot be ruled out.

A candlelight campaign had previously been carried out for the housing project that was vacated on October 9. There were repeated demonstrations and riots both before and after the eviction.
