The investigation of a knife attack on two tourists in Dresden two weeks ago led to the Islamist scene. According to information from SPIEGEL, the suspect arrested on Tuesday night has been known to the Saxon security authorities as a violent extremist for some time. The police listed Abdullah Al HH as a threat.

The 20-year-old Syrian was sentenced some time ago to more than two years in prison, among other things for instructing him to commit a serious act of violence that was dangerous for the state. Furthermore, the court found that the rejected asylum seeker had recruited members for the “Islamic State” (IS). According to information from SPIEGEL, the alleged perpetrator arrived in Germany in 2015. Since the beginning of the summer of 2017, he is said to have turned increasingly towards IS and has thought of an attack. The man may have become even more radical while in detention.

It is said that about two weeks ago he attacked two men in central Dresden with a kitchen knife. The 55-year-old man from Krefeld later died in hospital, his 53-year-old partner from Cologne survived the attack and, according to the prosecutor, has returned to Cologne. So far it is unclear why the Syrian attacked the vacationers.

As the Saxon authorities announced in the meantime, he was against Abdullah Al. HH issued an arrest warrant for murder and ordered preventive detention. The defendant was not released until the end of September after serving his youth sentence and has been under supervision ever since. Due to an Islamist motive in the room, the investigations are now being carried out by the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office.
