With 7,595 new cases, the number of new corona infections remains below the maximum; however, the RKI speaks of an “accelerated increase”. Policy measures could be reflected in at least a week.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, German health authorities reported 7,595 new corona infections in 24 hours. The value remains just below Saturday’s high of 7830, but is well above the 5132 new infections reported last Wednesday.

“Currently, an accelerated increase in the number of transmissions can be observed in Germany,” the RKI wrote in its management report on Tuesday. “Therefore, an urgent call is made for the entire population to commit to protection against infections.” The RKI also includes rules for distance and outdoor hygiene, ventilation of indoor spaces and, if necessary, covering the mouth and nose.

Results on the effectiveness of the measures are still pending

According to experts, recently reported infections are an indication of how strong the virus was in society about a week ago due to the time between infection, test, result, and report. That is why it will take some time before policy measures can be reflected in the registration figures.

The seven-day incidence, the number of new corona infections per 100,000 residents in seven days, has risen to 48.6 on a national average. In Berlin, Bremen, Saarland, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia it is therefore well above the national average, and in Bavaria it is slightly higher.

Berchtesgaden and Delmenhorst are the most affected

The most affected in Germany is currently the Berchtesgadener Land district in Bavaria with an incidence of 236. Since yesterday, strict exit restrictions have been established there to curb the high numbers. The highest incidence values are currently also found in Delmenhorst (212) and Berlin-Neukölln (156.6).

As the RKI reports, particular case clusters are observed in relation to celebrations in family and friends, as well as in nursing homes and nursing homes.

39 new deaths

According to the RKI, at least 380,762 people in Germany have been shown to have been infected with the virus since the beginning of the Corona crisis. Therefore, the total number of deaths related to a corona infection was 9875. The number of deaths increased by 39 in 24 hours. According to RKI estimates, there are around 302,100 recovered.

On Saturday, the number of new infections hit a record for the third time in a row since the start of the corona pandemic in Germany. However, the current values are only partially comparable with those of the spring, because now many more tests are being carried out and therefore more infections are discovered.

R-value has decreased

The number of views, or R-value for short, was 1.25 in Germany according to the RKI situation report on Tuesday (previous day: 1.35). This means that ten infected people infect an average of 12 to 13 more people.

The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier. In addition, the RKI gives the so-called R of seven days in its management report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value is now 1.23 (previous day: 1.25). It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.
