Crown crisis: teachers’ association calls for a return to operation with half classes at critical points

According to the president of the Association of German Teachers, Heinz-Peter Meidinger, the federal states and municipalities inconsistently handle the crown rules for schools. Regular operations continue in many places, although in cities and regions the critical value of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants is exceeded more and more frequently in a week, Meidinger told the “Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung”.

“At this value there should be a return to alternate operations with classes cut in half,” Meidinger said. But he hardly knows of any commune that acts accordingly. He urged politicians to be honest. “It ensures that these stricter hygiene guidelines in schools are completely ignored to keep schools open to the devil.”

Increase in crown buds in schools

Late last week, the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs reaffirmed that schools and kindergartens should remain open as long as possible, despite the significantly increasing number of corona infections. With a higher number of infections, it might make sense to also order the mask requirement in class, he said.

The Robert Koch Institute had recently described in a document that crown outbreaks in schools had been “increasingly observed” since they reopened. According to “tagesschau.de”, which had previously reported on the document, only very few federal states implement these recommendations.

The RKI concept foresees prescribing mouth guards, at least for older students, even during class, from a value of 35 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. RKI recommends split classes for staggered lessons starting at a value of 50.
