Coronavirus: no more whining – politics

The big city has become a hotspot where techno no longer hammers behind club walls, but in dozens of private apartments. But the cry is even louder. On the fact that there is no alcohol in the Späti after 11pm, this last refuge for hedonists could be sacrificed to the virus. And that a lost year is coming for Generation Club. It is time to end this polarizing talk. The benchmark in fighting pandemics should not be based on age, but on what is reasonable and feasible.

The crown fatigue shown is disproportionate. Even 30, 40 or 70 years ago people were forced to adapt their personal life plans to a new reality. But one much more dramatic than this pandemic. You know the stories of your grandparents from the 1940s, when the dictatorship and war dominated everything. The youth of then are the elders of today, who must now be protected, or locked up, alone at home or in retirement homes. Can the hopes and pretensions of the boys of then be counteracted with those of today? No, You can not. Because it marginalizes and creates new injustices.

You don’t have to look back that far to see how life plans change from one day to the next. Thirty years have passed since four out of five adults in East Germany lost their jobs and half a generation was not recognized for their professional qualifications. There were lost destinations; Citizens of all ages have struggled to make ground under their feet. Fortunately, it is not as dramatic in the pandemic. But remembering it helps to weigh the deprivation.

Basically, it is a simple math problem. To break the dynamics of new infections, contacts must be cut in half. If it is accepted that the economy, as well as schools and kindergartens, are kept open and contacts there are not reduced, only private contacts remain. In abstract terms, that sounds logical. Yet it is precisely this calculation that causes the hardships that are feared as a concrete consequence. What will happen to the beloved family celebration at Christmas? From the New Year’s Eve party? The historic birthday? The truth is that no one can predict it.

It is correct, in the interests of all generations, to weigh whether economic contacts should really be offset by private ones. It would be better to look for a way that largely allows one without neglecting the other. It is also critical that senior political staff are no longer campaigning. Anyone in opposition like the FDP can easily demand not to over-dramatize the dimensions and only call a red alert when old people die in homes. For real? If you can see coffins with crown deaths in this country, the failure with the CDU, CSU and SPD goes home and the election campaign. By the way, this is also what drives the grand coalition to succeed.

Whining at a high level is a waste of energy that the Federal Republic can no longer afford. Everyone has to recover now, for themselves and for everyone else. And you also have to remember: first there was the virus. Only then did the Prime Minister and the Federal Government begin to take action against the pandemic.
