RKI reports 4,325 new infections
Every fourth region is an area with virus problems
The colors on the map of Germany indicate: The corona virus is spreading more and more in more and more regions. Every fourth region now exceeds the upper limit. In addition, authorities report an unusually high number of new infections earlier in the week.
For the sixth day in a row, Germany has more areas with coronavirus problems than ever. According to the latest data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) (October 19, midnight), 108 regions exceed the upper limit of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the seven days agreed between the federal and state governments. With an increase of 15 regions compared to the previous day, the number of problem areas has passed the 100 mark for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
This means that every fourth region of the 400 cities and districts, as well as the twelve districts of Berlin identified separately by the RKI, is a Corona access point. The Bavarian district of Berchtesgadener Land is currently the most affected with a seven-day incidence of 252.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
The affected regions also include eight districts of Berlin, with Neukölln having the second highest incidence in seven days in the entire country at 193.1. The capital itself reported yesterday evening a seven-day overall incidence of 86.9. The number of severely affected virus hotspots in Germany could increase in the coming days: with a value higher than 40, 51 regions are now close to the critical mark, especially the Saarlouis district with an incidence of 49.4 in seven days.
Assessment of the current number of cases at the district level shows that the coronavirus is spreading even further in the country. The number of regions with an incidence of seven days that exceeded the first warning threshold of 35 new infections in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants has increased from one to 81 compared to the previous day. Only the city of Weimar in Thuringia has a seven-day incidence of zero in the entire country.
RKI reports more than 4,300 new corona infections

R value increases again
According to RKI, the number of views, or R-value for short, has risen again. According to the situation report on Sunday, it was 1.44 (previous day: 1.40). This means that ten infected people infect an average of 14 to 15 more people. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier.
In addition, the RKI includes the so-called seven-day R in its management report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value is now 1.35 (previous day: 1.37). It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.
