Verdi applies pressure
:
Warning strikes will paralyze much of NRW next week
Düsseldorf Verdi wants to put pressure on the collective bargaining conflict with public sector employers before returning to the negotiating table. Therefore, on Mondays and Tuesdays there are warning strikes in many places in North Rhine-Westphalia, including Düsseldorf, Cologne, Mönchengladbach, Duisburg and Münster.
Due to work stoppages, there will be no buses or trains in many cities in North Rhine-Westphalia at the beginning of the week. The Verdi union is calling all-day warning strikes across the country on Monday and Tuesday. Local traffic is affected in Düsseldorf, Cologne, Mönchengladbach, Duisburg, Düren, Hagen and Münster, among others.
There will also be work stoppages in Essen and Mülheim; According to the Ruhrbahn, there are no buses or trains there on Mondays and Tuesdays. A Verdi spokeswoman said there would be widespread failures in the connections.
The union demands better working conditions for the workforce. The maximum working time in the driving service should decrease from 12 to 10 hours, the rest time after the end of the shift should increase from 10 to 11 hours. “Despite the intensification of work due to the increasing volume of traffic and the constant high number of sick people, employers have not yet approached us”, says Peter Büddicker, Verdi’s regional director of transport in North Rhine- Westphalia. “To secure the future of public transport, we urgently need more attractive framework conditions.”
“The offer made by the employer today is a real provocation for colleagues,” says Gabriele Schmidt, Verdi NRW regional director. “You would think it was a fake: the six zero months through March 2021, the subsequent low percentage increases of one percent each, and the concurrent deteriorations that we cannot compensate for in a decade, are non-negotiable for us. Therefore, we will send another clear signal next week. “
The warning strike affects the whole of North Rhine-Westphalia. Strike meetings are scheduled for Dortmund, Essen and Cologne on Tuesday in accordance with Corona guidelines and in close consultation with the authorities. All areas of public service will be affected.
