Baumgartl owes penalties

Mario Götze celebrated a dream debut at his new club in Holland. Aiming to make it 1-0, the 28-year-old laid the groundwork for PSV Eindhoven’s clear 3-0 (3-0) win at PEC Zwolle. Coach Roger Schmidt’s team remained undefeated and clinched the championship lead in the Eredivisie with 13 points on matchday five.

Götze used an imprecise backward pass from Zwolle pro Clint Leemans after just nine minutes and edged out German goalkeeper Michael Zetterer. Another German player, Philipp Max, was involved in PSV’s 2-0 victory. Max, who arrived from FC Augsburg for eight million euros, passed from the baseline to Cody Gakpo, who took advantage of the entrance in the 18th minute. Götze’s attacking partner, Donyell Malen, made the preliminary decision with his goal to make it 3-0 before the break (39th). It was PSV’s twelfth consecutive victory against Zwolle.

Coach Schmidt had immediately given Götze confidence in the starting lineup, after 67 minutes he took him off the field in view of the clear score. Before the game, he had long left open whether Götze could be a candidate for the starting lineup. “Mario is not 100 percent fit yet, that makes sense,” he said. In addition to Götze and Max, in PSV’s starting lineup there was ex-Stuttgart Timo Baumgartl, who had to penalize at 30 minutes. Goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo, on loan from RB Leipzig, has rejected Reza Ghoochannejhad. Adrian Fein was substituted three minutes before the end.
