Due to the corona virus, restaurants in Hamburg have to close between 11 pm and 5 am Police verified compliance and found hardly any violations. An illegal party broke up in St. Pauli.
The first policemen arrived at the shoulder blade shortly before 11 pm A few minutes later, almost all the bars and restaurants were closed. Most bar owners had started lifting their chairs long before curfew. Like the employees of the bar “Katzen”, which was even closed a few weeks ago due to corona cases. According to information from NDR 90.3, guests who had to leave bars during curfew generally had no problem.
Party with almost 90 people dissolved
But apparently not everyone has complied with the curfew. At the Reeperbahn, the police broke up an illegal party with nearly 90 guests. There was no contact list there, lots of alcohol, and unruly guests at the party, even close to curfew at 11 p.m. Around 1:20 a.m., officers realized that several people had gathered in front of a club on the Reeperbahn during a patrol. Some of them entered the building, which the officers found suspicious, so they searched the club but found no one.
Barricade basement room
But because there was an unusually large number of jackets in the wardrobe, they searched further and found nearly 90 people in an initially locked basement. They had barricaded the basement door with benches, bicycles, and iron bars, and the police took them out one by one from the club. At least three people were arrested.
Stronger rules in effect from Saturday
Tighter rules have been in place in Hamburg since Saturday due to growing crown numbers. One was also valid in numerous public places like Spielbudenplatz in St. Pauli or Alma-Wartenberg-Platz in Ottensen. Mandatory mask also outdoors. The rules provide for this, among other things:
- Events without fixed seats are outdoors only allowed with up to 100 participants.
- Events without fixed seats in closed rooms it can take place with a maximum of 50 people.
- Yes Alcohol served during the event the number of participants allowed is cut in half.
Innkeepers criticize strict requirements
Criticism of the curfew comes from the Dehoga hotel and restaurant association, as well as individual hosts. Niels Boeing, a spokesman for Barkombinat, a club association in Hamburg, said in the NDR Hamburg Journal: “The mood is perplexed, desperately angry. Above all, everyone is upset that there was no advance communication.” Hamburg Dehoga President Franz Klein asked the Senate on Friday to remove both the accommodation ban and the curfew for restaurants. For him, neither one nor the other is an adequate means to contain the pandemic, but it sinks an entire industry in crisis. Most of the hosts would follow all the guidelines very carefully.
