Instead of a joint duel, Donald Trump and Joe Biden performed at competitive events Thursday night. In separate, but parallel, so-called public interviews, the US presidential candidates answered questions from the audience. According to a media report, the ratings now show who US citizens would rather see: Joe Biden.
According to the American magazine “Variety”, more than 12.7 million people tuned in to Biden’s appearance on the American broadcaster ABC. Trump’s poll on NBC only saw 10.4 million.
The simultaneous city councils had been scheduled after Trump’s Covid-19 diagnosis. The organizers of the television duels had decided to hold the second debate between Trump and Biden only virtually. Trump refused, so the debate was canceled. When Biden made a solo appearance on ABC television as a replacement, Trump hosted a question-and-answer session at the same time with NBC, the former host of his reality show “The Apprentice.”
The second television duel between Trump and Biden is still pending
While Trump reacted comfortably or sidestepped many questions, Biden was more confident, albeit lengthy at times. A second television matchup between the two is scheduled for October 22. So far, neither candidate has canceled the appointment.
The citizens of the United States elect a new president on November 3. So far, Democratic challenger Biden is way ahead of Republican President Trump in the polls.
