Berlin – In a fire in an apartment in a five-story building in Berlin-Schöneberg, a woman (45) and her seven-year-old son died early Friday morning. Another boy was rescued and injured.

The seven-year-old son was initially resuscitated and taken to the hospital in a rescue helicopter, but the boy died there. Their second child, a girl, arrived at the hospital with a heavy smoke inhalation, a fire department spokesman announced.

Rescuers had tried in vain for an hour to revive the woman found in the third-floor apartment.
