The decision is expected to be made on Thursday.
Kassel is the fifth municipality in Hesse to exceed the critical incidence value of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. The fifth and highest warning level of the concept of prevention and escalation takes effect from a value of 75.
Numerous cases of corona in the refugee home in Kassel
The reason for the significant increase in the number is that a large number of residents in the initial reception facility for refugees in Niederzwehren’s Kassel district were infected with the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen, the city said.
Last week, a volunteer and four residents, including a child, tested positive for the corona virus. A quarantine was then ordered for the 301 people living in the facility. The city also had all residents and employees screened. According to the results available so far, at least 111 people are affected.
Mainly because of this, the number of corona infections in Kassel is increasing considerably. The 7-day incidence is currently 94.2. Excluding this outbreak, the incidence is 42.1.
Over the weekend, it also emerged that there was a crown budding at a wedding in Lohfelden.
Corona at refugee home in Kassel: doctor criticizes conditions
Manfred Becker, Head of Department of the Gießen Regional Council, says of the quarantine at the refugee facility: “In order to interrupt the chains of infection, the internal quarantine areas are currently being expanded and restructured so that those who tested positive and negative can be spatially separated. Kassel general practitioner Dr. Helmuth Greger, who most recently worked at the facility, says he and his colleagues saw the problem coming. It speaks of unsuitable conditions in the facility and the fact that the people there cannot be sufficiently isolated from each other.
Corona in Kassel: arms exchange in exhibition halls canceled
As a result of the high number of corona cases, larger events with more than 250 participants may not take place until further notice, according to Mayor Christian Geselle. Therefore, the International Arms Exchange is prohibited at the fairgrounds, which should open on Thursday (October 15).

Corona in Kassel: restrictions on private celebrations
Before the legal ordinance of the state of Hesse that takes effect on Monday (October 19), private celebrations with more than 25 people will be banned in Kassel from Thursday (October 15). For celebrations in private rooms, especially in apartments, a maximum of 10 people is strongly recommended.
On Wednesday lunchtime, the 7-day incidence in Kassel with 17 new cases was still 37.2. These figures are, as of Wednesday evening, also on the website of the city of Kassel. That means the highest infection warning level
According to the German press agency, the medical situation is controlled by the planning staff of the Ministry of Social Affairs at the highest infection alert level above 75. That means a very close exchange with the municipalities and the advice that accompany, explained the ministry. The outbreak will be controlled in situ. If the ministry concludes that measures taken on the ground are insufficient, it could take over technical supervision.
