US Presidential Candidates: Duel From A Distance Instead Of Television Debate | tagesschau.de

Trump or Biden? American voters don’t have to decide that in the November 3 election, but also on Thursday. President Trump scheduled TV Question Time, at the same time as competitor Biden.

Instead of a second television debate, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and his challenger Joe Biden will compete with each other in two times of televised questions broadcast simultaneously but separately.

Broadcaster NBC announced Trump’s meeting with voters for Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. local time in Miami. Exactly for this moment, since last week a similar Biden event was agreed in Philadelphia, which will be broadcast on ABC.

NBC claims it has received a statement from the National Institute of Health Clinical Director, Clifford Lane. Consequently, he and the US’s chief virologist, Anthony Fauci, had seen Trump’s medical data and concluded with a “high degree of confidence” that the president “did not spread any contagious viruses.”

Trump against virtual debate

Actually, the second direct debate between the candidates was supposed to take place on Thursday, also as a question time with the voters. However, Trump’s Covid-19 infection prevented it: the non-partisan CPD commission responsible for the television duel had declared that the debate could not take place with both candidates in a study for health reasons. Rather, Trump and Biden should appear in different places and be interconnected online. The moderator and guests, on the other hand, are to meet in Miami, Florida, as planned.

Trump later canceled his participation. The president said he would not waste his time in a virtual debate. Biden, on the other hand, had proven open to a duel online. He responded to Trump’s rejection by scheduling his own television event. Trump is now in direct competition with this.

Both candidates have already completed one of those question times with voters in the current election campaign: the ABC president and the NBC challenger. Trump later complained that the questions to Biden were much friendlier than they were to him.

Bad poll numbers for Trump after first duel

The first televised debate of the candidates on September 30 is remembered mainly for the chaotic storylines. Trump, in particular, had interrupted Biden and host Chris Wallace over and over again. His polls gave way after the duel – he’s currently far behind Biden in the polls. After his Covid 19 illness, Trump wants to give at least one campaign speech every day in different states this week.

On October 22 there should be another direct meeting between the two candidates in a television duel.
