Police Investigate Coercion: Bus Driver Urges Students: Take off your masks!

Rumors spread on social media that the masks could be dangerous for children. A bus driver in Thuringia feels compelled to “lead by example”. Now the police are investigating.

Police are investigating a bus driver who asked students from the Sömmerda district in Thuringia to remove their mouth and nose protection. The 38-year-old man was charged with coercion, a police spokeswoman said on request. In late September, the man recorded a video on a school bus on the way to Kölleda and posted it on the Internet. He can be heard asking children to remove their masks and thus establish a “national poster.” The man claims that two children died wearing a mask.

The “Thüringer Allgemeine” had previously reported on the case of the bus driver. The management company of ÖPNV Sömmerda stated that they had separated from the driver due to “some inconsistencies”. It’s simply impossible if adults cause children to conflict, the company said. The driver in question was only hired in September.

Police had already warned of the video in early October. The discussion about whether the masks endanger the well-being of the child was sparked by several false reports on social media. The professional association of pediatricians then announced that it was “impossible” for a healthy child to die wearing an everyday mask.
