Regular ventilation should stop the spread of the corona virus in German schools. The German Association of Philologists believes that this has consequences for the basic equipment of students in the fall and winter.
According to the German Association of Philologists, schoolchildren will often have to keep their hats, scarves and jackets in classrooms and bundle up with blankets in the coming months. Proper ventilation is “the beginning and the end of everything” to keep the risk of infection with the coronavirus as low as possible, said the head of the association, Susanne Lin-Klitzing, of the newspaper “Bild”. “For the cold months, sweaters, scarves and blankets will now be part of the basic equipment for students.”
Teachers and students would have to rely on the onion principle and should be able to “put on such thick clothing and then gradually remove it. Lin-Klitzing accused education ministers of having started planning for the cold months too late. “Otherwise, schools could have installed Plexiglas panels between students, for example.”
Meanwhile, Teachers Association President Heinz-Peter Meidinger called for a traffic light system in Corona schools nationwide. He believes that current regulation in some federal states requiring older students to wear a classroom mask of 50 new infections per week per 100,000 residents is correct. “It is sad, however, that some federal states continue to circumvent that corona school traffic light system. This means that they refuse to automatically link hygiene measures in schools to the infection process,” he told the “Passauer Neue Presse.”
Meidinger also warned that schools could become corona hotspots. Corona infections would now also emanate from schools and students. “The assertion, repeated by some politicians, that there is no need to worry about the infection situation in schools and that the few infections that have so far been transmitted mainly from outside to schools can no longer be sustained,” Meidinger said . At present, there are several cases in Germany where not only are infections within schools likely, but actually the infection process even originates from schools and pupils.
