Statement in election commercial: Fauci: Trump uses falsified quotes

In a campaign video for Donald Trump’s campaign, American virologist Anthony Fauci appears to be praising the president. Now the scientist criticizes: He never said that like that.

US epidemic expert Anthony Fauci is angered by a commercial for US President Donald Trump’s election campaign team. The government adviser claimed that the clip misleadingly cited the crown’s fight against the pandemic. In the nearly five decades of his service to the general public, he has never “publicly supported” a political candidate, the 79-year-old said.

The 30-second spot contains a recording of Fauci in which he says he couldn’t imagine that “anyone could do more.” In the context of the commercial, this gives the impression that the medical professional is referring to Trump with his statement. However, it is clear from the full quote that this is not the case. He says, “I’m on the White House Task Force pretty much every day. It’s every day. So I can’t imagine that, under any circumstances, anyone could do more.”

“A phenomenal job”

Fauci now expressed anger that his remarks had been used by Trump’s campaign team and taken “out of context” without his approval. These comments from months ago would have been related to the efforts of public health workers.

Trump rejected the criticism of his adviser to the place. It was “in fact Dr. Fauci’s own words,” the president wrote on Twitter. Trump added that his administration did a “phenomenal job” in fighting the pandemic, as confirmed by the governors of several US states.

Fauci and the president have crossed paths over and over again in recent months. The immunologist has not shied away from correcting Trump’s misleading statements about the pandemic. This provoked resentment from the president, who repeatedly tried to downplay the threat posed by the coronavirus.

The clip Fauci has now objected to is about Trump’s personal experiences with the new pathogen: “President Trump is recovering from the corona virus, and the United States is,” he says.

Following the forced pause due to his coronavirus disease, Trump wants to continue his election campaign in major states in the coming days. In polls for the Nov. 3 election, Trump is currently behind his challenger Joe Biden across the country and in several of the countries deemed decisive for the election.
