On Sundays and Mondays, the infection figures reported by the RKI are usually significantly lower than in the rest of the week, mainly because not all offices transmit data. With 3,483 new corona infections, the number remains high.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), German health authorities reported 3,483 new corona infections in one day. From Wednesday to Thursday the value had risen significantly from 2,828 to 4,058, from Thursday to Friday the number was 4,516. On Saturday morning there were 4,721 new cases. Experience has shown that the number of registered cases is usually lower on Sundays and Mondays, also because not all health authorities report data to the RKI during the weekend.
According to the RKI, at least 322,864 people in Germany have been shown to have been infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus since the start of the Corona crisis (data as of October 11, 00:00 am). Therefore, the number of deaths related to a corona infection was 9615. That was 11 more than the day before.
R value at 1.42
According to RKI estimates in Germany, based on Saturday’s management report, the number of views, or R-value for short, was 1.42 (previous day: 1.34). This means that an infected person infects around 1.4 people on average. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier. Additionally, the RKI gives a seven-day R call in its current status report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, according to information on Friday, this value was 1.43 (previous day: 1.37). It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.
Meanwhile, more and more large cities in Germany are becoming Corona hot spots: On Saturday, Cologne and Stuttgart reported that the warning level of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days was exceeded. Berlin, Frankfurt, Bremen and Essen are also above this threshold.
On Friday, Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the situation with the mayors of Germany’s eleven largest cities. The development in metropolitan areas shows “if we can keep the pandemic in Germany under control or if control is slipping away from us,” Merkel emphasized. The agreed catalog of measures foresees, among other things, the deployment of experts from the RKI and the Bundeswehr if the threshold of 35 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants is exceeded in seven days. From 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, there should be new restrictions.
Warn Prime Ministers
Several prime ministers asked citizens to be vigilant. “It’s getting dangerous,” said Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.”
The Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, warned in the “Bild am Sonntag”: “I hope that the citizens do not do everything they are allowed out of a sense of responsibility. The green politician added: “It is not necessary to have a party at home or in a restaurant.”
Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer also appealed to the young generation in the “Welt am Sonntag”: “Now we do not need full parties, but precautionary measures and controls.” The CDU politician defended stricter rules. “Now we need certain instruments to control the situation. We want to preserve to a large extent our social and economic life.”
