At the beginning of the fall holidays, travel plans are in grave jeopardy. Because Essen has been a “risk zone” since Sunday. What impact does that have now?

October 11th. On Sunday, Essen again exceeded the critical incidence value of 50. This means that Essen is now officially a “hotspot” or “risk zone”.

On Sunday, the North Rhine-Westphalia state health center and the Robert Koch Institute in Essen a value of 57.3.

Are current 357 people infected with Corona, 1,353 citizens are currently in quarantine. This is a new record since the first case was known in Essen on March 1, 2020.

Since Essen is now officially a hotspot, it affects all citizens. Starting Monday, October 12 there will be a new general decree current with numerous Limitations.

> Private celebrations in public spaces, for example restaurants, are only allowed with 25 guests. If more than eleven guests are invited, the celebration must be invited to the public order office three days in advance. This rule also applies to funerals. The city emphasizes: “Exceptions are not possible.”

> Masks are required in all public buildings starting Monday.

> The new rules apply until October 31.

> Anyone wishing to meet outdoors with acquaintances or friends should have no more than six people as a group. So far, there has been a maximum of participants within a group of ten people.

> Big problem for thousands of people in Essen who wanted to travel to the autumn holidays: many federal states have banned accommodation for travelers coming from risk areas. If you still want to travel, you must submit a negative corona test, the result of which must not be more than 48 hours old.

> Another problem: the city (health department and fire department) only examine patients with symptoms. Most medical practices also prefer those patients who have symptoms and / or who work in “systemically important professions” due to acute overload. Consequence: Many Essenes now have to cancel their vacation or let it expire.

October 9. Essen briefly exceeded the critical corona incidence value of 50 on Friday and will rise above this value again at the weekend. Silke Lenz, a spokeswoman for the city of Essen, said on Friday. This not only tightened the rules for private celebrations in public spaces. At the beginning of the autumn holidays, the travel plans of thousands of citizens are in serious jeopardy overnight, especially when it comes to domestic travel.

Because most of the federal states decided this week not to allow guests from so-called risk areas to enter the country. If there are more than 50 new infected people per 100,000 inhabitants (incidence value) in Essen over seven days, the city is considered a risk area.

Citizens now have to go to the family doctor’s consultations more frequently

If you want to start your trip as planned, you need a negative corona test, the result of which should be no more than 48 hours when your trip begins. Because there is no central testing center in Essen, unlike other cities, citizens now increasingly have to go to general practitioners’ consultations to get a medical result in time.

But medical practices in Essen are also overloaded. Also, at the start of the fall break, many medical professionals now go on vacation and close their offices.

The new situation is fueling the discussion about the creation of a test center. “We were already at such a facility in March and we still are,” says physician Ralph Köhn, district president of the Association of Health Insurance Physicians (KV). The condition must be that said central test center be operated jointly by the KV and the municipality.

Stadt explains: That is why we cannot evaluate patients without symptoms.

The city of Essen had always refused to establish a central point of contact, referring to its task force, which took samples from suspected patients throughout the city. For this, the members of the working group travel to the homes of the patients. Only those that show symptoms are tested.

Other than that: if you want to get tested without symptoms in order to travel on vacation, you have to pay for the smear yourself. Doctors’ offices in Essen had recently been visited largely by patients needing a smear, reports Ralph Köhn. Physicians are advised to give preference to patients with symptoms; also people who work in schools, nurseries or homes for the elderly.
