US President Donald Trump, who had Covid-19, entered the election campaign on Saturday after returning to the White House from a hospital stay. In front of a few hundred supporters on the lawn of his official residence, the president spoke on “law and order,” one of the key themes of his campaign. Trump stood on a balcony above his audience.
The president of the United States strongly warned against a victory by his challenger Joe Biden. Republican Trump said the Democrat could not rule the country. Biden’s program was “socialist” or even “communist” and would plunge the country into a crisis, Trump said in front of hundreds of cheering supporters. “I feel great,” Trump told the crowd.
In an interview broadcast on Friday (local time) with “Fox News” medical expert Marc Siegel, Trump claims to be healthy again. “I feel very good, I feel very strong,” says Trump. Many people who had the “China virus” did not feel so good afterward, but he felt “very, very strong.”
When he entered the hospital, “he did not feel very strong,” says the president of the United States. He had no respiratory problems. “But I didn’t feel vital. I didn’t feel like the president of the United States should feel, ”Trump continues.
Trump praises the doctors who “came from everywhere.” “It’s good to be president,” he said. He was also lucky with the medication. “It was like a miracle,” says Trump. He felt much better after just 24 hours. “He could have left the hospital much earlier,” says the president of the United States. “I wanted to go out after the first day.”

Trump was treated, among other things, with a cocktail of experimental antibodies from the biotech company Regeneron. Now he is talking about a “cure” for Covid and promises to make the drug available to Americans for free, which he repeats in the interview. “We will send it to everyone,” he says.
Antibody cocktails developed by at least two manufacturers have yet to be approved and will only be available in relatively small quantities for the foreseeable future. According to critics, Trump is now promoting the drug as a silver bullet to distract attention from his administration’s failure to contain the pandemic ahead of the elections.
It is not yet clear whether the president is still contagious. Trump says in the interview that it has been tested but has not yet received the values. But it is virus-free or “at the lower end of the scale,” says Trump. He also stopped taking medications, “probably for eight hours or so,” he says. It was the first time since the illness that Trump had been seen on television for a long time. He had previously given telephone interviews.
Trump’s personal physician, Sean Conley, announced Thursday that the president could return to public appointments starting Saturday. According to official information, he tested positive on October 1. Trump says in the TV interview that he was temporarily diagnosed with congestion in his lungs; personal physician Conley had previously only spoken of “expected findings” when asked about it.
Another “super broadcaster event” at the White House?
Participants in the White House event. Masks wore masks, but they were not kept at a distance from each other. In recent weeks, Trump’s numerous campaign appearances have been noted because many of the spectators did not wear masks or maintain the recommended distance.

It was a similar story at an event on the White House lawn on Sept. 26, in which attorney Amy Coney Barrett was featured as Trump’s Supreme Court candidate. Then several participants tested positive. Trump and his wife Melania could have been infected there as well. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, for example, was in the hospital until Saturday. Renowned American immunologist Anthony Fauci spoke of a “superprocessor event” at the White House.
Trump had previously announced a campaign appearance in Florida for Saturday night. This reportedly could not be arranged on such short notice. Now the trip has been announced for Monday. Florida is one of the important states for the November 3 presidential election. Trump is currently behind his challenger Joe Biden in the polls.
Trump and Biden will not meet again for a television duel until the 22nd
The second Trump / Biden television debate planned for next week has been officially canceled. Opponents should meet as scheduled on October 22, as organizers announced on Friday. Both parties have agreed for this date.
The planning for the October 15 debate was confused when Trump contracted Covid-19. The commission announced Thursday that it would hold the debate online instead of bringing the candidates together in a single room.
Triumph canceled his participation, Biden scheduled a question time with voters. Trump’s campaign adviser Jason Miller said Friday that Trump would also ask voters questions that day, on various television channels. The organizing committee for the debates pointed out that the candidates had other plans. (dpa, teaspoon)
