The second planned television duel between the president of the United States, Trump, and his challenger Biden, will not take place. The responsible commission cancels the event. After Trump’s crown infection, there was a dispute over the date.
The second television debate scheduled for next week between US President Donald Trump and his challenger Joe Biden has been canceled. The event, scheduled for October 15, will not take place, organizers said. Now he wants to fully focus on preparing for the final debate, which is scheduled for October 22.
Organizers had previously decided to virtually hold the second duel to protect themselves against corona virus infection after Trump announced a week ago that he had tested positive. Candidates need to light up from different places rather than being together on a stage as is often the case. Trump rejected the new format and said he would not attend under such conditions. The first duel at the end of September was chaotic. The two applicants insulted each other multiple times, and Trump in particular had repeatedly interrupted Biden.
Most recently, Trump postponed his first election campaign event to Saturday after his corona infection until Monday. Trump’s campaign team announced Friday that the president would perform in front of his supporters at the Orlando International Airport, Florida, on Monday night. On Saturday, however, the president wants to hold an event at the White House for the first time after his infection. A government official confirmed media reports that Trump will address the issue of law and order in a speech in front of his official residence.
Concern about Trump’s infection risk
Trump tested positive for the corona virus on Thursday of last week and made the infection public on Friday night. Then he was treated in the hospital for three days. The 74-year-old returned to the White House on Monday. Trump’s personal physician, Sean Conley, said Thursday that he expects the president to “safely return to public engagements” on Saturday. The Covid 19 therapy had given him “very good”, Trump’s values were “stable”. However, experts have expressed doubts as to whether the president, who has been treated with strong drugs, should return to daily political life so quickly, also because of the possible risk of contagion for others.
The crown diagnosis had launched Trump’s election campaign just weeks before the November 3 presidential election. In some polls, the Republican lags far behind challenger Joe Biden of the opposition Democrats.
