Democrats in the US House of Representatives want to create a commission to evaluate the health of presidents. In extreme cases, the body should verify the president’s ability to act, House of Parliament Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in Washington on Friday. It’s not about incumbent Donald Trump, but about having such a mechanism in the future. The commission will not launch until after the November 3 elections.
Jamie Raskin MEP said the commission should be made up of representatives from both parties. It is said to be made up of 16 medical experts and former senior government officials, including possibly former presidents. The members themselves must then nominate a 17th representative to the commission. The legal basis is the 25th amendment to the constitution. Provides rules for cases where the president can no longer serve.
It is not clear if the law has any chance of implementation.
Democrats have a majority in the House of Representatives, which will be elected on November 3. Trump’s Republicans have so far controlled the Senate, which has only been partially redefined. Trump, for his part, affirmed that the “crazy Nancy Pelosi” only wanted to set up the body to be able to replace Democrat Joe Biden in the event of Vice President Kamala Harris’ victory.
