reThe day of the evacuation of the occupied house “Liebig 34” in Berlin, one of the last symbolic projects of the radical left scene in the capital, has begun.

So far there have been smaller fires across the city, such as garbage cans, but there were no violent actions or clashes with police, a spokeswoman said Friday morning.

However, the first arrests have already been made. The photos showed a protester being taken away on Rigaer Strasse. Three suspected arsonists were also arrested. According to the “Berliner Morgenpost”, grill lighters and fire accelerators were seized from them.

Bottles were thrown at officials and fireworks were set off. In the morning an excavator and a cleaning vehicle arrived. The intersection is illuminated with headlights. Police officers were posted on the roofs of the houses. Music and the roar of the pots came from the surrounding houses. In the house itself, the electricity was cut off, access through the balconies is blocked by residents with shopping carts and racks.

Hundreds of protesters are behind barriers about 50 meters from the house. Most of the young people, mostly dressed in black, chanted loud chants on Friday morning, such as “Houses for those who live in them”, “Ashamed of you” or “All Berlin hates the police.”

Several thousand police officers are said to be on duty Friday in connection with the eviction.

A ten-year commercial lease expired two years ago. The landlord finally enforced the eviction.

Since the early hours of the morning, supporters of the neighbors wanted to demonstrate in various places. “Let’s create chaos, let’s be visible and avoid the eviction of the Liebig34,” it said on the house’s website. In recent days there have already been a series of arson attacks by leftist extremists and other destructions.

The night before the eviction, a few hundred protesters had gathered nearby. Most of the young people were standing in front of a small concert stage on Rigaer Strasse in Berlin-Friedrichshain on Thursday evening. A hip-hop band performed and the atmosphere was calm.

The demonstration ended around 10:00 pm, a police spokesman said. About 400 people participated. There were no incidents. Even a smaller gathering near the Frankfurter Tor ended without incident.

The police were represented by numerous officers and had cordoned off some of Liebigstrasse and Rigaer Strasse. Cars also had no access. The cops, many of whom came from other federal states, wore helmets and, in some cases, Plexiglas signs.

The intersection in front of the house was completely cordoned off at night. The police had also occupied the surrounding rooftops. In the brightly painted house “Liebig 34” some windows were illuminated. Music and a woman’s speeches echoed through the intersection of the speakers. But behind the bars of the next cordon there were only a few people listening. It could not be determined if there were actually residents in the controversial home. By Thursday afternoon, around ten young women with luggage had left the “anarcha-queer-feminist Liebig 34 house project.”

On Thursday the Police had confirmed that the eviction date would be kept: “We will accompany the bailiff to enforce the order with administrative assistance.”

In recent days there have already been a series of arson attacks by left-wing extremists and other destructions. A rally was announced in Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg on Friday evening at 9pm.
