Anyone coming from a corona risk area and wanting to stay in a German hotel is apparently going to face nationwide trouble down the road.

The federal states have decided to prohibit accommodation for tourists from the national corona risk areas. The ban applies across the country. This was reported by the German Press Agency, citing groups of participants after an exchange conference between the country’s leaders and Chancellor Helge Braun.

Corona risk areas are districts in which there have been more than 50 new corona infections per 100,000 residents in the last seven days.

The dpa’s initial report does not state if there are exceptions if people from risk areas can have a negative corona test. Nor is it yet known whether the regulation also applies to visits to family or friends.

However, there are exceptions to the new regulation: For people who have a negative corona test. If this negative corona test lasts for a maximum of 48 hours, people in German risk areas can also stay in hotels.

According to figures from the Robert Koch Institute, several districts have broken the critical mark of 50 new infections. Consequently, residents of the following locations would be affected by the hotel ban:

► City without district of Hamm (North Rhine-Westphalia)

► Remscheid (North Rhine-Westphalia)

► District of Vechta (Lower Saxony)

► Bremen

► Also residents of these districts of Berlin: Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Mitte, Neukölln, Tempelhof-Schöneberg

Four federal states do not participate in the new regulations on the prohibition of accommodation: Lower Saxony, Hamburg, Thuringia and Berlin. In all four countries there are sometimes multiple regions that the Robert Koch Institute ranks among the top 15 most affected by Corona nationally.

It had been previously disclosed: According to Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU), Bavaria is introducing an obligation for corona tests for all travelers who come from corona risk areas and want to go on vacation to Bavaria. For those who failed to submit a negative corona test, there is a lodging ban, Söder wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

“This also applies to the districts of Berlin which are risk areas due to the high number of infected people,” Söder explained.

Schleswig-Holstein and Rhineland-Palatinate had already caused a stir in recent days with quarantine obligations for travelers from German risk areas.
