On Tuesday there was a large gas explosion in Arzbach (Rhineland-Palatinate). An entire house was completely destroyed. There was one seriously injured.

As announced by a spokesman for the police department in Montabaur, the explosion at the house on Hauptstrasse 34 occurred on Tuesday around 10:10 am A large contingent of emergency services was immediately deployed to control the fire.

In addition, it was necessary to search for possible wounded among the rubble. As the police announced in another report, the 54-year-old resident of the house was still in the building, which was badly damaged by the explosion.

He was seriously injured by the resulting explosion or fire and had to be immediately transferred to a clinic by rescue helicopter.

Due to the location of the house, the access roads to Arzbach were largely closed. It is not yet known how the gas explosion occurred.

The extinction work is still going on. The Montabaur Criminal Investigation Department took over further investigations into the cause of the fire.

The house is uninhabitable and, according to the district administration, the surrounding buildings were also damaged. About 180 helpers were on duty.

The technical assistance organization was still active in the early afternoon.
