Sedan. Following a cable fire on the S-Bahn at Frankfurter Allee station in Friedrichshain, state security investigates. “Based on current knowledge, we assume arson,” the authority said on Twitter. The fire started around 5 a.m. and caused massive delays and failures. Police already suspected political antecedents in the morning.

On Monday afternoon, an alleged letter of confession appeared on the Internet platform Indymedia. The anonymous authors refer, among other things, to the impending eviction of the radical left-wing project “Liebig 34” in Friedrichshain. The group calls itself Feminist-Revolutionary-Anarchist-Cell (Fraz).

Repair work is ongoing: as announced by the S-Bahn Berlin on Monday afternoon, the replacement bus service will remain at Ringbahn (S41 / S42) between Neukölln Frankfurter Allee until Tuesday afternoon at 2 pm Even on the lines S8 Y S9 There are still restrictions: the shuttle traffic between Ostkreuz and Baumschulenweg continues until Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. S85 it doesn’t go wrong.

Berlin S-Bahn attack: Liebigstrasse 34 clearance causes considerable unrest

For the security authorities, what they feared internally has come true: that the evacuation of Liebigstrasse 34 will cause considerable unrest and decentralized actions. In internal documents available to the Berliner Morgenpost, a nationwide mobilization of the radical left scene is expected. The police have requested support from all over Germany. At least 2,500 police officers, including special forces, are expected to be deployed. The streets and squares around Liebigstraße 34 and neighboring Rigaer Straße will also become a restricted area, in which freedom of assembly will also be restricted. Only residents and visitors can pass. It is also forbidden to park any vehicle.

The scene of the radical left announced a strong opposition to the eviction and has already begun to take security measures in the house. In police circles it was said that balconies would be closed and doors reinforced. Several residents have already moved in.

The police fear that there will also be damage to the property of the police and the judiciary, as well as to the new buildings. As reported, an increase in car fires is also feared. Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Lichtenberg and Neukölln are at particular risk. According to information from the Berliner Morgenpost, the police also informed their service personnel in an internal letter to assess the situation to check the cars before starting their journey to ensure they were not sabotaged.

While Liebigstrasse 34 is about to be cleared, the follow-up to the operation around the left-wing neighborhood bar “Syndikat” in Neukölln in early August has not yet finished.

Left-wing extremists carry out attack: “They want to inflate the damage to the general public”

Interior expert Luthe (FDP, not attached) said of the arson attack: “Arson attacks on infrastructure are part of the standard repertoire of left-wing extremists. It is time for all democratic forces to finally act together and decisively. against these undemocratic ones. Violence can never be a political tool. “

Interior expert Tom Schreiber (SPD) said: “It became clear to me that the leftist autonomous scene repeatedly made use of this treacherous tool. They want to increase the harm to the general public.”

In Berlin there have been repeated arson attacks on the S-Bahn in recent years. More recently, in September 2019, a left-wing extremist group carried out an arson attack on the S-Bahn power and communication cables between Karlshorst and Wuhlheide stations. The arson fire paralyzed parts of regional and S-Bahn traffic in East Berlin.
