Dahoud started playing for all DFB youth teams from the U18 and became European champion with the U21 in 2017. A good three years ago he moved from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Dortmund. So far he has not made his senior team debut, nor has the 28-year-old Hofmann, who played ten games with the Under-21s and five with the Under-18s. With Benjamin Henrichs, a player also returns after a long absence . The Leipzig professional played his last match in the DFB dress in June 2017.

Due to the high loads, the national coach called more than the 23 usual players. A total of 29 players are in the roster, eight of them are only destined for the Nations League. The players mentioned are Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka, as well as Leipzigers Lukas Klostermann and Marcel Halstenberg, the players Löw did without in recent Nations League matches. Niklas Süle and Toni Kroos complete the team.
