Sporting director Rouven Schröder explained: “We have been very intensively concerned with our sporting trajectory and with the question of how we can take into account current developments and give new impetus to the team in the short term and in the future.” The result of “this very open and honest conversation” was separation.

However, the incidents of the last days were also decisive for the end. The Mainz team had retired deserved forward Adam Szalai the week before; Beierlorzer was instrumental in this. The team supported Szalai and boycotted training and then showed a poor performance against Stuttgart.

Co-coach Lichte has a chance in Mainz 05

Now that Lichte takes over, the 40-year-old has been part of the 05er coaching staff since 2017. “Jan-Moritz Lichte has the technical expertise, more than ten years of coaching experience, and of course knows our team by inside and out, “said Schröder:” So we trust him to lead our team for the rest of the season. “
