Also in Berlin and Brandenburg, commuters and commuters will need to be prepared for massive restrictions on local public transport on Tuesday.

The Verdi regional district has asked employees of the BVG and twelve Brandenburg transport companies to participate in the nationwide warning strike.

According to this, the service must rest in the capital from 3 in the morning for nine hours until noon.

In the case of the Brandenburg companies, the warning strike is said to last 24 hours until 3 a.m. the next day, as the union announced on Friday.

“We understand that the strike will cause a lot of inconvenience to passengers,” said Jeremy Arndt, traffic chief in the union’s district. “But we can only react to the incomprehensible blocking attitude of the employers with a strike.”

Negotiations in the 16 federal states

Separate negotiations on new collective agreements are currently underway in the 16 federal states. The Verdi Federation had initially called for the national warning strike. The background to this is their demand for a nationwide collective bargaining agreement that should complement state regulations. Currently, the employer rejects it. On Friday, both parties met in Berlin for another round of collective bargaining at BVG to no avail. After the union’s announcement, they were postponed, employers said.

“We do not understand this warning strike,” said the managing director of the Berlin municipal employers’ association (KVA), Anke Stier, in the afternoon. “Last year alone there was an increase in revenue for all BVG employees with an annual volume of 102 million euros.”

Although public transport is part of the public service, the union’s demands have nothing to do with the collective bargaining currently taking place there. In the case of public transport, there are sectoral collective agreements.
