As a consequence of violations of crown protection measures at a wedding party in Hamm, regulations will now be tightened across the country. “We will write in the Corona Protection Ordinance that private parties must register with the regulatory office two weeks in advance,” NRW Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) told WDR 2 radio show.

In addition, a responsible person should be appointed and a guest list submitted. “Then the law enforcement office can control such celebrations,” Laumann said. The celebration in Hamm was larger than allowed. Furthermore, the list of participants was not correct, making follow-up difficult. The celebration shouldn’t have taken place like this.

As a result of the celebration, many schoolchildren were also infected. “We have more than 40 infected children and adolescents in schools,” a city spokesman said. There are currently nine schools affected. Only in one case is there no connection to the wedding.

“Classes of infected children have been quarantined and are also subject to mandatory testing.” This also applies to teachers who have taught in classes. The affected classes received distance lessons. “The other classes and levels in the schools can go to school for now,” the spokesperson said.

Nine patients in the hospital, one of them in intensive care

On Wednesday, the city declared the number of infected people currently at 179. The city sees a connection to the wedding in more than 100 of them. Nine infected people would be treated at the hospital, the spokesman said. Among the nine there is a patient who is being treated in intensive care. Even with her there is a connection to the wedding, the spokesperson continued.

In Hamm, the Corona wave was triggered by a big wedding and other related festivals that took place in Hamm and Dortmund in early September and a week later in Werl. The city has now found nearly 330 people from Hamm who participated in the celebrations.

As a result, the number of new corona infections in the city of Hamm rose to the highest level nationally. Since Wednesday, only five people or people from two households have been able to stay together in public space in Hamm to protect themselves against the pandemic.
